Golden Delicious apple variety is one of the most popular apple varieties in Serbia. Large fruits are very sweet, with high quality aroma typical for this variety. The fruit has cone shape and it is yellow in color, hence the name. The skin is thin, while the flesh is firm, crunchy and juicy. It is believed to be one of the apple varieties with highest quality and is extremely popular, both among the consumers and among the producers. The only downside of this variety is the loss of weight during storage. It is an excellent dessert apple, but is also recommended for fruit salads and cooking.

It was discovered in the USA in 1890s as a spontaneously growing tree, but its production started in 1914.

Basic characteristics:

Fruit characteristics: Large to very large fruit (150‐220 g), with cone shape. The basic color is green‐yellow, later turning into golden shade of yellow. 

Ripening time: Second half of September.

Storage time: From September to May.
